Ruube Rant: Internet Explorer 6 and Below

Apologies my fellow RHOMers, I am sure you have noticed my new layout for RHOM. Well unfortunately I have discovered that the layout does not work well if you are using Internet Explorer 6 and below. The title will be unaligned and the sidebar will appear at the bottom of the screen. Because of my weak XML programming skills I am not able to do much.

So please use another browser ( Chrome, Firefox, Opera ... etc) or upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 if you wish to view the site properly.

Movie Rant: Iron Man 2 and The Avengers Movie

Hi true RHOMers, here's abit of interesting news. But before we begin I just wanted to clear something up.

Even though it may seem like I'm a DC kinda guy (with the Batman & Joker gifs and pics) I actually don't read DC comics even if I liked The Dark Knight Movie. I may branch out and read a little Image Comics (Spawn, which ended recently) or a random recommendation by a friend (Wanted, Top Cow Productions) but its mostly Marvel Comics. I don't read DC unfortunately because of a bad experience when I started (I tried reading the Infinite Crisis Series).

Back to the story, some news on the upcoming Iron Man 2 and Avengers movie. IronMan 2 is sceduled for release on May 7 2010 and The Avengers July 15 2011. Which is kind of far since I was expecting a quick sequel after seeing SMLJ( SaMuel L. Jackson) at the extra scene at the end of the Iron Man credits (you DID stay till after the credits didn't YOU?) recruiting Iron Man to join the Avengers.

Well, lets just hope for the best, Excelsior !!

I never really liked the series but it is still a very sucessful game. You should be able to guess by reading the title that you will be Gardening with Mama this time. Evening RHOMers, I'm sure some of you had the older calenders where it shows Deepavali falling on 28th October 2008 (oh wait thats today) which may have fooled you if you did not know that the date was actually yesterday 27th October 2008. THEN WHY DID I WASTE A LEAVE ON MONDAY TO ENJOY A LONG WEEKEND WHEN DEEPAVALI ACTUALLY FALLS ON MONDAY NOT TUESDAY!!!

Well not really, but I would almost have, if I hadn't argued about the day of the holiday while arranging a meeting with "someone" to go out to an exuberantly crowded large shopping complex to watch a movie but to only decide not to watch it and have an ingestion of mashed meat fried into a red tubular shape covered in baked wheat calling themselves a SUPER version of man's best friend (but I really enjoyed the food and company <><><><>).

Music Rant: The Dark Knight OST

Y so serious RHOMers, managed to get a copy of The Dark Knight OST today. A beautiful collaboration of Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. IMO I feel that the soundtrack contains more darker tunes and some I would say 'chaotic' parts. I believe that many would agree with me when I say that I believe that the music played a major role in Dark Knights success. 

My favorite track would be "Like a Dog Chasing Cars".  It starts off suspense like then slowly rolls into a dark heroic kind of tune. In the middle you can feel the heroic theme go off into a climax of sorts before it dies off into a chaotic theme which I think is suppose to potray the Joker maybe in a scene in the movie when the track is played. I have linked a youtube video allowing you to preview a lower quality of the soundtrack. 

And finally if you like it, don't buy it just yet haha. Wait till December 9th when they release a 2 CD version of the soundtrack (which I wish I had known earlier).

Movie Rant: Tropic Thunder

Jolly good day RHOMers, heres an interesting movie that I caught over the weekend. Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man). Its a story about 4 big movie actors (Brandon T. Jackson is not shown in the poster) who go to Vietnam to shoot a movie and things get out of hand when they meet into a bunch of real terrorists.

Story : Real hillarious story here, the mention of the sypnosis itself was enough to make me want to watch the movie.

Visuals : Lots of explosions and stuff and some gore as well

Fav Scene : Its a draw between Tom Cruise(yup he's in there) screwing the terrorists dumbfounded or Downey's character when asked if he is confused replies "I know who I am, I'm a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude".

Overall : Hillarious movie, had some great laugh out loud moments there. This movie is a 7/10, watchable even at WEEKEND PRICE.

News Rant: Woman Jailed For Killing Husband's Maple Story Character

TOKYO - A 43-year-old player in a virtual game world became so angry about her sudden divorce from her online husband that she logged on with his password and killed his digital persona, police said.

The woman, who has been jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his ID and password to log onto the popular interactive game "Maple Story" to carry out the virtual murder in May, a police official in the northern city of Sapporo said Thursday. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of department policy.

Food Rant: Hanabi , Tampopo & Xin Wang

Bon appetit RHOMers, as all you regular readers out there (yes all 3 of you) I haven't been updating my food rants for awhile now. Lots of pics of food have built up in my phone and I decided to lay them all out tonight.

First, I am sure many of you have already tried Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe. This was from 2 weeks back when I had my dinner at Cineleisure's Xin Wang. Above are the pictures from my dinner, though I cannot remmeber what I had that plate there was my friend's chicken rice while the drink was my peanut butter ice blend.

It was a unique drink to turn peanut butter into an ice blended drink. It tasted exactly the same as peanut butter but was still good nontheless, but near the end of the drink it started to feel overwhelming. I guess I would give it a 5.5/10.

Next up, Hanabi Japanese Restaurant Buffet at Katong Mall. This is just a small portion of what I had that day. The food was quite good and the variety was slightly above average. The menu doesn't show you any pictures so you got to know you Japanese food pretty well or just 'hantam' and pray you don't order something unedible. Overall the buffet was a 6.5/10 cause drinks weren't included in the buffet else I might have given a higher.

Finally Tampopo at Liang Court which I just had this afternoon. Even though I just had this meal with a couple of my friends this afternoon, the name of these meals have already escaped me. I do remember the one on the right was my meal, even though it looks spicy ( the waiter even warned me about its spicyness) its not really THAT spicy. On the left was something really special, the eggs that were served with the noodles were hard boiled on the outside but liquid on the inside. How they managed to cook the eggs like this is really beyond me, but according to my friends(my dish didn't have a liquid hard egg sob) it tasted nice. Overall I would rate it as a 6.5/10, the ramen was nice but I kinda prefer Waraku's more.

Movie Rant: Max Payne

Max Payne, a movie adaption of the hit video game of the same name. A story about a cop who lost his wife and kid, this is where the similarity to the video game ends. No internal monologues, movie's Max Payne voice feels different (he shoulda worn a Batman mask "wai yu wan na kierl mei") and though there are some slow motion scenes, which I believe the movie's adaption of "Bullet Time" from the game, the slow motion scenes keep coming out at dumb moments.

Story : Real straight forward stuff drugs, murder and a plot twist so obvious you could see it coming from China.

Acting : Well the acting was ok.

Visuals : Well when someone takes the drug and starts hallucinating you get to see lots of CGI sunlight, yes like real sunlight is too expensive so you gotta use the CGI version. Then there are the angels, which were also too expensive so they were all just coloured black. Real thrifty thinking there max

Fav Scene: Near the end, where he charges into a carpark with 2 machine guns then he goes up a few levels and suddenly has a shotgun

Overall: On a scale of 1 to 10, I think about 2 people were still awake at the end of the movie.
I'll give it a 2/10, not even worth downloading.

Though watching the movie did let me think of the times i played Max Payne. I remembered a scene where someone was stalking Max and had recorded all his phone calls, and when you go into this stalker's room and replay the phone call recording thing there is a call where Max calls a phone s*x line. Heres the vid, but you have to skip till to 4:00/9:24 .

Tech Rant: Asus launches touchscreen Eee desktop

Asus has launched a 15.6in touchscreen desktop PC, dubbed the Eee Top, as a budget rival to HP's TouchSmart.

With just 1GB of memory and a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, the desktop's specification shares much in common with Asus' Eee netbooks, but has a sizable 160GB hard disk.

The computer also has a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam, a set of stereo speakers and a wired keyboard and mouse.

Windows XP will be shipped with the machine, making use of Microsoft's recent sales extension for low-powered desktops and netbooks. Sun Microsystem's Star Office will also be included, giving office capability straight out of the box.

Domo RHOMar-san, here's an interesting bit of news from the Tokyo Game Show held this year. A Loco Roco 2 trailer. For those of you without a psp (that includes me of course.... my ads don't pay enough to buy a psp sob) Loco Roco is a hit game for the psp.

The player controls the planet the LocoRoco inhabit to move the LocoRoco around. The player can also split larger LocoRoco into individual LocoRoco, and then recombine them. Splitting is required into order to fit through tight spaces and also solve many puzzles. (For example, smaller LocoRoco start singing when left idle for a while, which is required at the end of the levels.) There are 5 worlds to clear, each consisting of 8 levels.

The object of each level is to find and eat as many "berries" as possible to increase the size of the LocoRoco, to a maximum of 20. There are also "Pickories" and "Mui Mui" to find. The "Pickories" are used as currency for playing the minigames Mui Mui Crane and Chuppa Chuppa, while the "Mui Mui" unlock more minigames and music for the Loco House. The player must also be careful to avoid enemies, mainly "Burrs" (spiky obstacles) and "Moja", which can cause them to lose LocoRoco or even die if the last LocoRoco is lost.

The player can also collect "Loco House Pieces", which are saved and available from the Loco House minigame. They come in different rarities, rated from one star pieces (common) to three star pieces (rare). The player gets one for each "Mui Mui" they find in a level, but they can also be found lying around the level or obtained from other NPCs if a certain number of LocoRoco have been collected by that point. There are 144 pieces to collect; however 40 of them are special (each depicting a character from the game) and can only be obtained by finding all 20 LocoRoco in each of the 40 levels.

Gaming Rant: StarCraft 2 Terran, Zerg, and Protoss Each Sold Seperately

Greetings Rhomers, during the StarCraft 2 gameplay panel at BlizzCon it was announced that Blizzard will be creating a single-player trilogy for StarCraft 2 where each race will have a stand-alone game. The first will be Terran: Wings of Liberty, where players take on the role of Jim Raynor in a non-linear game. The second is Zerg: Heart of the Swarm, and the last will be Protoss: Legacy of the Void.

Good day Rhomers, if you have been checking Diablo III's website you would have noticed that a new class has been added to the available classes (Pedophile like Barbarian, Hobo Drug Addict Witch Dotor and a Wizard).

It says in her description that she's a rebelious wizard, ran away from school, fought with the principal, trying to alight a vehicale without panties, etc..... She is looking for forbidden spells to add to her arsernal (I believe she has time spells and a mixture of some others)

Well it looks like I found the class I want in Diablo III (unless a Batman class appears or something)

Singapore Rant: MOS Closed Down

SINGAPORE: The curtains have come down on Singapore’s Ministry of Sound (MOS). Lifebrandz Limited, which brought the popular club to Singapore in 2005, announced in a statement that it was ceasing MOS’ operations from October 6.

The two—storey nightclub just hosted Ferrari F1 driver Felipe Massa two weekends ago.

Lifebrandz said it had terminated its licence agreement with MOS’ UK—based brand owner, Ministry of Sound International Limited, in accordance with the terms of their contract.

Lifebrandz added it had also instructed its lawyers to file a lawsuit against the Ministry of Sound International Limited in the Singapore High Court.

But Lifebrandz is retaining tenure of the 38,000 square foot space in Clarke Quay.

It plans to turn it into another night entertainment venue different from the Ministry of Sound. Details are expected in the next few weeks.

Gaming Rant: Diablo III Deckard Cain's Journal

Was resting abit after some studying. Decided to head over to Blizzard's Site to check any news about Diablo III or Starcraft II.

While surfing I stumbled upon a section in the Diablo III website. It was the journal of Deckard Cain, an old man who has been through most of Diablo I & II. It retells the stories that lead up to Diablo III and it brings back many memories of the times I was playing Diablo I & II.Has some of the scenes from the old game. Real nostalgic stuff, you should give it a read too especially if you played the first 2 games.

Strong taste, somewhat overwhelming. Had to struggle abit to finish the bowl. Not really nice I would say

Tastes abit like campbell's. Didn't have much of it just tested some of my friend's so i can't say much but from what I had, on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it 6 (maybe i should start a rating system or something)

I LIKE SASHIMI ... DID I SAY I LIKE SASHIMI CAUSE I REALLI LIKE SASHIMI. This baby right here, its a salmon belly got from Sakuraya Fish Mart down at Parkway Parade. I fell in love with it. Makes me wish I had a self regenerating tougue made of salmon belly.

Singapore Rant: Electric Bills Rise

Well there goes my GST Rebates. I believe most of you already know but for the benefit of those who do not, electricity bills will see an increase of around 20%.

Well according to Energy Market Authority (EMA) the increase is due to higher fuel oil prices. For the last quarter of this year, oil prices were nearly S$155 per barrel, 38 per cent more than the third quarter.

The EMA said the government's U-save rebates of S$310 to S$330 to help offset increases in utilities bills is more than enough to cover this year's electricity price increase for one-, two- and three-room HDB flats.
